Tracing Over a Picture of a Blueprint in Chief
If you have a set of plans that you would like to make into a Chief plan you can save a lot of time by importing a picture of the blueprint into Chief and tracing over it.
Start by getting a good digital picture of the plan. Try to keep your camera straight on the picture. Save the picture to your hard drive into the project folder for the plan. In Chief you then go to "File - Import - Picture" and select the picture of the blueprint. Once the picture is in the plan you need to make it full size. To do this you will need to know a horizontal and vertical dimension in the plan. The longer the dimension the better it works. Start by clicking on the picture and then click on the "Resize Icon"
Click on each end of a vertical or horizontal dimension in the plan. When the "Picture Resize" dialog opens type in the dimension from the plan of the 2 points you selected. This will stretch the picture out. Do the same thing for the other direction of the picture. You will now have a full size drawing on the screen. Open the dialog for the picture and select "Line Style" and the "Define Layer" button. In the layer dialog create a new layer to put the picture on. You might name it something descriptive like, "JPG - Blueprint Floor 1". After you name it lock the layer so you can't move the picture. You can now trace over the picture with walls, cabinets, doors and anything else and turn the picture on and off anytime. |
